Beta - final. This release completes my long road developing temple2. There is too much continued work for my taste.
The map is open to the next volunteer maintainer. The .map file is included.
I've done substantial work on the map that was given to me by the original mapmaker, whom has fallen completely out of contact.
This has been a training ground for a number of techniques I've learned.
The most work went into the water shader, followed by the fixing massive numbers of uncaulked brushes. Many new areas have
been added. I would like to see the original cavern next to red spawn returned, rather than the little tunnel to the cliffside.
This map can look stellar, like modern-gen, if someone is willing to put that kind of effort in. Factor in bump mapping, and
other shiny new effects in UrT HD, and wow, this map could really blow some minds. The shiny water shader in UrT HD though
can't do mucky looking water at this point. I think the map's main visual selling point is the water. No other map has nearly
as good looking water. The waterfall got a lot of attention too. Could have used NulL's particle studio, but that's not on my
must-do list. I tried though, couldn't make splash/spray I was happy with. The flames took some serious time. No more of these
default flame animations. Perfecting the vine swing behavior for the player took a bunch of time. It's hard to recall all of the
efforts put in.
The map is meant to be dark and ominus. The theme I'd come up with was a Uriel beast rose up from the excavation site seen
in ut_temple. That's the gapping hole at the bar. I wanted to have claw marks and busted stuff leading somewhere across the
map. Something where at the time scientists or whoever was onsite got mauled by the beast, thus the bloody spots along the map.
Two teams of opposing ideals drop into the site. One to rescue, one to profit. You get the drift.
Many of the textures are old, like original q3 old. They look bad. The map geometry mostly looks bad. It's a mess. I just
made is a pretty mess. :) Eight years later, I'm done. How do I know it's been eight years? The small statue model in red
spawn was made by Lt1/Blackrayne custom for this map.
Anyway, enjoy, and I hope the next maintainer can whip up a better map way faster than I did!
